South San Francisco students recognized for courage during apartment fire - 04/19/2017

In the face of smoke and flames, the courageousness of two South San Francisco elementary school students helped save their loved ones and neighbors from potential tragedy.

When an apartment fire broke out Wednesday, March 1, at an apartment complex on Olive Avenue, schoolmates Jacquelyn Buendia and Alison Huerta jumped into action.

Huerta saw smoke billowing from the room below her family’s unit on the second floor and told her parents who scrambled to safety while her neighbor Buendia ran from door to door to alert other residents nearby.

South San Francisco Louis P. Guaraldi Food Basket Program Needs Your Help To Nourish Local Families This Holiday Season


Since 1981, the South San Francisco Young Men’s Institute (YMI), in association with the Kiwanis Club of SSF, SSF Host Lions Club, South San Francisco Scavenger Company and various community organizations and volunteers have participated in the annual Louis P. Guaraldi Food Basket Program to benefit local families during the holidays. Last year, more than 3,000 pounds of food was donated to provide food boxes with over a week’s worth of food including meat, eggs, milk, fresh produce and dry & canned goods to over 300 local families.



SSF Lobster Feed Fundraiser raises funds for local youth - 10/06/2012

Did you go to the lobster feed on Sept. 22 that the Boys & Girls Clubs and Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco put on? If so, you contributed to $14,000 raised to support local youth.

At September's event, about 175 guests attended for a meal of Maine lobster, prawns, sausage, artichokes and corn on the cob. More than 100 Bay Area businesses donated raffle prizes and auction items.
